Please observe the following editorial guidelines preparing your text for publication in Litteraria:


1) Format of the document: MS Word or Rich Text Format (RTF).
2) Preferred font: Garamond
3) Preferred font size, spacing and justification:
  • Body text: Garamond, size 13 points, justified, 1.5 spaced
  • Blockquote text: Garamond, size 11 points, justified, single spaced, whole paragraph left-indented by 1,25 cm/ 0.5''
  • Footnote text: Garamond, size 11 points, justified, single spaced
  • Primary headers: Garamond bold, size 14 points, justified
  • Secondary headers: Garamond bold, size 13 points, justified
  • Tertiary headers: Garamond, size 13 points, justified
4) Layout of the page:

a) Margins

  • Top - 2,5 cm/0.5''
  • Bottom - 2,5 cm/0.5''
  • Left - 2,5 cm/0.5''
  • Right - 2,5 cm/0.5''
  • Left  gutter (in case of the need to print and bind) - 1 cm/ 0.3''

a) F
ront page:

  • no header
  • Place your full name in the upper left corner (font Garamond bold, size 13 points);
  • Below it, place information concering your affiliation (name of the Department and University) and/or code of the course (font Garamond, size 13 points);
  • After a double space, place your main title, Garamond bold SMALL CAPS, justified centrally;
  • Below it, locate your subtitle, Garamond bold, no small caps, justified centrally
  • Below it, after a double space, start your first paragraph
  • on the front page, locate your page number in the right bottom corner

b) Subsequent pages

In the header, place your name and, after a colon, the first part of your title, followed by a flush if too long (Garamond size 10 points, italics) as well as the page number

c) Throughout the document

Indent first lines of each paragraph by 1,25 cm/0.5''
Do not indent blockquotes beyond the 1,25 cm/0.5'' limit
use [...] for omissions
footnote every quote and paraphrased idea
place bibliographical references in the footnotes

d) Use the Chicago stylesheet (latest edition) as standard for footnotes

e) Save for quotes, which have to retain the original spelling, use American spelling

f) For emphasis, use italics only:


g) Quotes from other languages should be either in translation or appear both in the original (footnote) and in translation (in the text).

h) Quotations

  • Longer quotations exceeding three lines should be formated as blockquote text
  • Use double quotation marks for quotations within blockquote text
  • Shorter quotations should be placed in double quotation marks in the text
  • Use single quotation marks for quotations within short quotations
  • Use single quotation marks around words used in a special sense.

i) Punctuation

  • Periods and commas should appear inside the quotation marks.
  • For abbreviations, use neither periods nor spaces after and between letters, except for initials of personal names.
  • Use en dashes, typing one space before and after.
