Film and History (Journal)
http://www.h-net.org/~filmhis/
Welcome to the website for Film & History: An Interdisciplinary Journal of Film and Television Studies. Film & History is concerned with the impact of motion pictures on our society. Also, unlike many other journals, Film & History focuses on how feature films and documentary films both represent and interpret history.

Film & History often contains the following types of articles:

  • Analysis of individual films and/or television programs from a historical perspective (viewing the films/programs as historical artifacts)
  • Survey of documents related to the production of films (how films move from initial ideas to the finished screen version)
  • Analysis of history as explored through film (using film critically in the classroom)

Yet this is more than just a journal. As you can see from the links on the left, there are many avenues to Film & History. We hope you'll join us for our upcoming conference in 2006.

George Lucas
http://www.lucasfilm.com/inside/bio/georgelucas.html
[...] It was Lucas's third film, 1977's Star Wars that changed everything. A deceptively simple morality tale of good versus evil told across a fantastic landscape of exotic planets and bizarre creatures, Star Wars became an international phenomenon, despite the fact that few saw its potential during production. Refusing to accept the limitations of filmmaking at the time, Lucas created his own visual effects company, Industrial Light & Magic, to deliver the more than 300 shots required to make his vision a reality. Star Wars broke all box office records, set new standards for sophistication in film visuals and sound, garnered eight Academy Awards, and inspired a generation of young people to follow their imagination and dreams. The success of Star Wars allowed Lucas to remain independent and continue operating in Marin County, California.[...]
